What is an Opera Tolerator (OT)?
An OT is an Alaskan (or visitor to the great state of Alaska) with a Big Wild sense of adventure. Also, an OT is someone interested in experiencing opera in an effort to reclaim the birthright of ‘classical music’ as a popular form of entertainment.
Why was the OT movement created?
To convert good folks into ‘lovers’ of great opera
How did the OT’s come into being?
A few years ago, Rick Goodfellow of KLEF 98.1 FM Alaska developed the idea to encourage members of the East Anchorage Rotary Club to which he belongs, to ‘try-out’ live opera.
What treatment do you offer if my OT experience makes me want to puke?
In general, this is only necessary after experiencing bad opera. Unfortunately, there’s plenty of poorly produced opera, just like there’s plenty of poorly produced TV. AO will NOT be producing bad opera. However, just to be on the safe side, we offer the following complimentary items at all OT show gatherings and events:
• Barf bags
• Ear plugs
• Post show counseling
• Emergency beverage treatment during show intermissions as well as before
Why should I experience opera as an OT?
Attending as an OT provides affordable and highly enjoyable ways to explore the magnificent world of opera. As an OT, you will receive:
Specially priced tickets (currently $25) to select performances, which will include:
•a before-the-opera chat
•a private food and mixed beverage reception, before the show
